Food banks in the United States have helped around 42 million people avoid going hungry while they are struggling to put food on the table either due to illness, job loss, or other unforeseen circumstances. No one should have to go to bed hungry, and National Food Bank Day encourages people to commit to that belief. With the damage and massive changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is more important now than ever to play a role in ending hunger across the country.

History of National Food Bank Day

Falling on the first Friday of September every year, National Food Bank Day is coming on September 3 this year. National Food Bank Day was founded by St. Mary’s Food Bank to commemorate their founding and the contributions of food banks across the country. The “National Day Calendar” registered it as a holiday in 2017, and it has been celebrated on the first Friday of each September since.

Ways To Give Back

If you’d like to make a difference, the best way to do that is to volunteer at your local food bank or make a donation. Food banks are almost always willing to take nonperishable food products or cash donations, but you will have to check their list of needs if you are looking to donate something fresh that could expire.

At Tom Curren Companies, we understand the importance of food banks, and are committed to helping those who are struggling to put food on the table. Every year since 2013, we’ve donated to the Greater Boston Food Bank in our clients’ names. It’s our way of giving back and saying thank you to the Boston area. If you’d like to get involved in any way, please feel free to reach out to our team or the team at the Greater Boston Food Bank!

We hear horror stories from clients all the time about working with other contractors who were rude, didn’t show up on time, left a mess behind, or even abandoned them with a half-done project. Plenty of contractors lack respect and have poor communication skills with not only clients but also other contractors. In our 35 years in business, we’ve come across many unprofessional contractors who we’ve chosen not to work with because they didn’t meet the high standards and expectations we have.

Below is an email we received this year from a plumber, after we politely declined the bid he gave us for a bathroom remodel. His bid was significantly higher than each of the other plumbers we met with.

Rude Contractor Communication

Choosing A Professional Contractor

We’re not sharing this just to shame another contractor – we purposefully removed names because it truly doesn’t matter. The important message is that yes, there are a lot of less-professional contractors out there, but it’s our responsibility to make you aware so you can make informed decisions. There are a few things you should absolutely do before choosing a contractor, like checking out past projects on their website, reading their online reviews, and asking for references. It’s not a good idea to jump and hire the first contractor that gives you a low price – you need a contractor who will guide you through the process so you feel comfortable and understand all of your options.

At Tom Curren Companies, we work tirelessly every day to provide the highest level of service, quality, accountability and professionalism. Our team takes pride in what we do, and we want our clients to feel good about who they choose as a partner. Working with Tom Curren companies means not only finding success in your next project, but also finding a contractor you can finally trust.

Dear friends and clients,

While we weather these startling shocks from the Covid-19 virus unfolding all around us I’m reminded of advice I received from my Mom as a youngster….”just keep your feet under you” she’d say when things were going wrong.  And, her simple admonition to “wash your hands”.

Along those lines, here is a video from Dr. Peter Lin that we’ve all watched here at TCC regarding personal hygiene.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drMw2evwMFA

As an overview, please know that we stocked up on disinfectant products very early on, equipped our team with them, and provided several training sessions on how to keep themselves, and our clients, safe while we work to make their homes beautiful.  Gratefully, no one on our team has tested positive for flu or Covid-19, and no one has been quarantined in any way.

We’re ready to work safely with you and your family on any home improvement projects you may have.

While we are a small company you may be aware that we’ve also invested heavily in technology and infrastructure over the past few years.   So, while we can’t paint your walls or hammer nails remotely, we’re completely able to consult with you, find solutions to problems, create estimates, and prepare the path for a beautiful result…all by working with you remotely.

We hope this provides some level of comfort during what we know are trying times.

Best,

Tom

PS: The bees seem unaffected and the spring honey flow will be coming soon!

We are truly delighted to announce that Tom Curren Companies has been honored with The Best of Houzz for Customer Service 2017 and the Angie’s List Super Service award for 2016!

Houzz is one of the leading platforms for home remodeling and design. The Best of Houzz is a homeowner-to-homeowner reference for finding the best home professionals on Houzz. Earning a Best of Houzz badge signals a company’s commitment to excellence. Tom Curren Companies has been awarded the Best of Houzz Customer Service for the fourth year in a row—quite an achievement! This award is a reflection of our sincere dedication to offering our clients the highest level of satisfaction.

Tom Curren Companies has earned The Angie’s List Super Service Award for the third year in a row! This award demonstrates an exemplary year of service and our commitment to consistently providing that high level of service to our clients. “Only about 5 percent of the Home Improvement companies in the Boston area have performed so consistently well enough to earn our Super Service Award,” said Angie’s List Founder, Angie Hicks. “It’s a really high standard.”

These awards are a couple illustrations of how hard we work to keep our customers happy. We are very proud to be recognized for our positive contributions to our customers and community. Many congratulations to our whole team in receiving these prestigious and deserving awards!

For many companies, the days of customers being able to talk to a person rather than a machine are long gone. At Tom Curren Companies, we pride ourselves on maintaining a personal connection with our clients from the start. From real people answering your initial call to always having an estimator present Deliver Bids in-person at your home, our focus is always on client satisfaction.

Our team has an honest commitment to providing responsive service and implementing products and materials that match our high standards across the board. We want to tailor each job, regardless of its size, to both your structural needs and style preferences. Through our initial visit to your home for the Measure Call, we hope to further establish what best suits your home at our second meeting, referred to as the Deliver Bid.

Having an estimate delivered by either email or mail could be considered more convenient in terms of time for many of our working customers. But without having this experience face-to-face, clients are not able to have all of their questions and concerns addressed about the estimate with great clarity at the time of its delivery. Our estimators not only tell you the price of the work but also try to a build the foundation of the great client-contractor relationship that we aim for each time.

During the Deliver Bid, our estimators will take the time with the client to review the pricing of each aspect of the job, as well as go over any of our company’s processes and procedures associated with the work. Clients will gain an understanding of how we have earned our excellent reputation over the course of the last 30 years, as we stand out from the rest with our consistently in-depth explanation of the estimates we put together for your job.

At Tom Curren Companies, we place the longevity of our relationship with each client above the convenience of a quick estimate that is frequently thrown together by other companies who are only looking for the highest volume of estimates in the shortest amount of time. These rushed estimates can lead to additional meetings and discussions down the road- discussions that could have been avoided had the contractor gone over the scope in-person from the beginning. With us, customers will always feel that we take the time, both behind the scenes and during each stage of the in-person estimating process, to elevate ourselves above the rest by providing customer satisfaction to the highest degree.
